Sojourner Truth Walk 2017
Thanks to everyone who helped make the 5th annual Sojourner Truth Walk on May 6, 2017 an amazing success! 250 people walked together in the streets spreading positive images of girls’ and women’s leadership and highlighting social justice activists from Sojourner Truth to the present. We met our goal and raised $30,000 to send 80 Philly girls to Camp Sojourner this summer and offer free arts and leadership programs year-round!
Below are images throughout the day: gathering in Clark Park for registration, face painting, and sign-making; amazing kick-off performance by Ursula Rucker; walking and drumming through West Philly (Camp Sojo drummers led by Latreice Bronson/ Drum Like a Lady) and the MCTC Drumline; female activist history displays; crossing the finish line at the Calvary Center for Community and Culture with Unidos da Filadelfia playing samba music while onlookers cheered; eating lunch together and hearing about the work of important local social justice groups: New Sanctuary Movement, Jewish Voice for Peace, Anti-Islamophobia Network, and ArtWell (doing a joint project with Camp Sojourner.)
